545 inmates released from Allegheny County Jail due to coronavirus concerns

As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, 545 inmates were approved by the courts for release and physically discharged by the jail. Also on Friday, officials from the jail announced that a jail employee tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier this month, Pittsburgh's Action News 4 learned that close to 100 inmates a day were being processed for release. Those under consideration for release were non-violent offenders and elderly inmates with medical conditions.
