17 Daily Eleven

The Arakan Army (AA), an insurgent terror group, yesterday released Upper House MP U Hawi Tin from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) after over two months in detention, according to the AA’s statement.

The statement claims that the AA released him at a safe, secure place in Paletwa Township on 21 January. It had to temporarily detain Khumi ethnic NLD MP U Hawi Tin , under inevitable circumstances. In addition to the mutual understanding and trust between Rakhine and Khumi people, both ethnics have long been living together since many years. The freeing of him is aimed at rebuilding the brotherhood relation.

Chin State Minister U Soe Htet who is also the spokesperson of the Chin State government said: “MP U Hawi Tin’s relatives go to Pwaygone village near Chin-Rakhine border, to bring him back.”

The local media covered the news with the photo showing the arrival of MP U Hawi Tin in Paletwa Township at around 5 pm.

The Daily Eleven tried to phone MP U Hawi Tin’s wife. But she switched off her mobile phone. Social organizations and political parties constantly demanded the release of victim. The freeing came around three days after Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a two-day state visit to Myanmar.

On November 3, 2019, the AA detained him en route from Paletwa in Chin State to Kyauktaw in Rakhine State, to attend the parliamentary meeting in Nay Pyi Taw.

In the earlier statements, the AA said the AA knows the major role played by U Hawi Tin in posting the fabricated news on social media with the intent to lose the dignity of the ULA/AA on the international stage, create political crisis and cause international pressures and anti-AA works.

The AA detained him as he created disunity between Rakhine, Khumi, Mro, Thet, Myar, Linyae and other ethnic minority through the spread of hate speeches, instigation, especially attempts to oppress Rakhine ethnics, to disrupt military operations of the AA and to act as a stooge for the army.
