State Counsellor’s 73rd birthday celebrated nationwide

The 73rd birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was celebrated in Yangon and across the country with religious ceremonies, charity food donations, tree plantings and blood donations.
        Members of the National League for Democracy donated provisions to 200 members of the Sangha and nuns outside the party’s headquarters in Bahan Township at 6.30 am yesterday and donated food to needy people to mark the State Counsellor’s birthday.
        The ceremony was attended U Tin Oo, Patron of the NLD, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Speaker of Yangon Region Hluttaw U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Speaker U Lin Naing Myint, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe, Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister U Naing Ngan Lin, members of the party, lawmakers, wives and donors.
        The second session of the celebration took place at 9 am with the cutting of a birthday cake and best wishes from members of the party for their leader.
        Others celebrated the birthday of the State Counsellor at Maha Bandoola Park in downtown Yangon yesterday by donating food to needy people and reciting poems dedicated to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
        At the Shwedagon Pagoda yesterday evening, 7,300 candles were lit in honour of the State Counsellor’s birthday.
        In addition, charity food donation ceremonies were held in wards across Yangon to celebrate the day.
        Nationwide, tree planting ceremonies were held yesterday.
        The activities, which also raised awareness of environmental conservation, were held in Kyonpyaw in Ayeyawady Region, Kyaikmayaw in Mon State, Kani in Sagaing Region, Hsihseng Township in Pao Self-administered Zone in Shan State (South), Paung Township, Butalin Township, Thaton Township, Yenanchaung in Magway Region, Ngathayauk in NyaungU District, Wuntho and Mawlaik in Sagaing Region, Bogalay Township, Maubin Township, Taunggyi, Yinmarbin Township, Bamauk in Sagain Region, Htigyaing Township, Myinmu, Phekon Township, KhinU Township in Shwebo District in Sagaing Region, Minhla Township, Kyaikto Township, Madaya Township, Hsipaw Township in Shan State (North), Thanbyuzayat Township, Pwintbyu Township in Magway Region, Natmauk Township, Ye Township, Pintaya in Danu Self-administered Zone in southern Shan State and Thanlyin in Yangon Region.
